Don’t keep all your eggs in one basket

Date May 8, 2007

In the blogosphere this saying can be used for 2 aspects: blogging and monetizing

Blogging

Don’t try to cram everything in one blog. When you talk about everything in one blog, it can confuse your visitors. A couple of posts one a specific topic can’t do much harm, but sometimes it’s better to create a separate blog for separate niches.

My blog at www.rehuel.com is web design and development oriented. Getting too much into blogging and monetizing of blogs can take the focus off web development. So those development minded visitors who look for information will have to look through all the off topic info to find what they are looking for. Once they notice that the supply of development information shares consistency with topics they are not interested in, they may stop visiting my blog. That’s why I decided to create this blog, to keep the focus at Rehuel punt kom on web development and focus on blogging in this blog.

Another reason for this is that, if for some reason something happens to my other blog, this one can still create opportunities to make money.

Monetizing

As mentioned earlier, there are so many ad networks to choose from. Relying on only one source of income can be dangerous. If your income through one network drops or is jammed, you can always have other options for making money.

A warning a lot of bloggers may overlook is not to solely rely on your blog for income. Use your blog to create a network, which you can use to create other non-blog related income. Some have create sites where they sell products for companies via their affiliate programs. A friend of mine is a photographer who wants to start blogging to show his work to the world.

Find some part time job to do while blogging for money. If something happens to your blog, you should not have to be evicted because you can’t pay the rent!

Conclusion

“A dog has 4 legs, but he can only walk one path” is a famous old saying in Suriname. Unfortunately, this does not work if you want to make money with your blog. You can’t rely on only one blog, monetizing option or topic. Be creative in finding different ways to make money online.
